Course Overview:
This unit standard will contribute to full development of learner within the electrical engineering,
generation, distribution, construction and renewable energy sector by able to isolate, maintain
and repair and do fault finding on the a range of three phase AC machines and control gear.
Learner can install, test and maintain speed control drives used in computerized integrated
manufacturing (CIM) system.
Delegates credited with this unit standard are able to do:

control gear.
Course Contents:
1) Type and functions: Variable speed control components, Test equipment, Power
electronic circuits 
2) Attributes, descriptions, characteristics and properties of electricity
3) Sensory cues: a) Use of senses to detect faulty components, b)Use of sight to read
power electronic circuits 
4) Purpose of Variable speed control converters, Reading circuit diagrams, Using variety of
components, Maintenance and trouble shooting, Causes of damage and injury,
Implications of incorrect testing applications, Implication of not applying electrical safety,
Installation procedures
5) Testing Procedure
Soft Starter
Prescribed isolating procedures.

ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION

The learners will be subjected to practical assessments and on successful completion of the course, the learners will be awarded certificates of competence.
